Euphoria has become a pop-culture phenomenon not only because of its plot, but also because of the costumes and make-up shown on the show. After the premiere of the first season of production, the Internet was flooded with a wave of make-up inspired by the characters of Rue (played by the phenomenal Zendaya) of Maddy, Cassie, Kat and Jules.
Glitter, sequins, pastel colors and dynamic lines are just a few of the characteristic elements that Daniella Dovy, head of the makeup department at Euphoria, chose for the protagonists. How to do such makeup yourself at home? What distinguishes them and characterizes them? Check out our review.
Euphoria: the character of the characters and makeup
Rue, in a narcotic state, cries glittery tears. Perfectly styled Maddy hides her sensitivity behind sharp lines decorated with Svarovski crystals. The executioner with no make-up look undergoes a transformation and begins to use strong, neon and vulgar make-up, which is to reflect her process of discovering her uninhibited sexuality. Jules appears with white clouds on the eyelid, colorful, graphic lines or an abstract-artistic composition of shadows with neon lights and ubiquitous pink. Cassie, on the other hand, decides on a delicate, natural make-up with a delicate accent in the form of crystals arranged in the shape of a swallow. The make-up performed in the series Euforia is supposed to reflect the character of the protagonists, but also their emotional states and their longing to be able to embody the better versions of themselves created by them.
Euphoria: differences between the first and second season
The first season of Euforia delighted with colorful, expressive and bold make-up. In the second one, however, the heroines’ make-up was decided. Doniella Davy explained that individual makeups are more stringent because it is the more difficult emotional stage in their story. Hence, a more delicate approach to makeup. The make-up artist explained in an interview with the Us Weekly portal that the production underwent a specific creative evolution. This decision was made by Sam Levinson (director of Euphoria), who decided to take a different narrative-artistic direction, which influenced the visual aspects such as makeup. A subtle and illuminated finish was chosen, heavy and matting foundations were abandoned in favor of covering imperfections with a concealer.
Euphoria: neon lights starring Jules
How to do the makeup that Jules is wearing? The key to success is a light complexion, without blush and bronzer, eyebrows combed with a transparent gel or eyebrow soap, and graphic eye makeup in neon rainbow colors. Such an effect can be easily achieved with the use of Miyo neon pollen, which, apart from excellent pigmentation, also glow under UV light.
Euphoria: Maddy’s crystal liner

Maddy’s strong make-up is one of the most recognizable and most frequently recreated make-up by influencers. First, use a black eyeliner to make a line with a swallow, and then use eyelash glue, a fine brush or a wax crayon to glue the crystals to the line. It is a very simple look that requires only a little precision, and can be modified in many different ways, as you like.
Euphoria: Rue’s glitter tears

Glitter tears were supposed to reflect the mental state of Rue Bennett (Zendaya) after taking drugs. It turned out, however, that this motif turned out to be so attractive that it quickly broke into the current beauty trends. This make-up is very simple – just draw tears with a metallic or glitter eyeliner and additionally glue the glitter on a special glue. Chaos and lack of precision are the key to creating this look. It is worth letting your imagination run wild and using every shade of glitter that can be found in a cosmetic bag.
Euphoria: graphic eye and Cassie’s skin glowing

In Season 2 of Euphoria, TV series Cassie, played by Sydney Sweeney, underwent a transformation under the influence of her toxic boyfriend Nate. Her makeup from delicate and girly turned strong and expressive. To achieve this effect, light and luminous skin makeup should be applied. The show’s make-up artist used only concealer and highlighting powder for this purpose, then combed them with an eyebrow soap and folded them up to get the bushy brows effect. We start painting the eyes by applying a base under the shadows, thanks to which we obtain maximum durability and pigmentation of the shadows, we apply a blue pearl shade, and just next to the lash line, we add a little color with a shade of darker, blue eyeliner. We complete the whole with a graphic painting of lines, which we can do with a black eye pencil or if we feel confident and want a strong effect, we can do it with a pen or gel eyeliner. The whole is complemented by lips in a warm nude shade. It is not the easiest look to make, but it gives an amazing effect and makes a great impression!
Euphoria is not only an extraordinary story about the Z generation, which cannot cope with the problems of everyday life, but also an extraordinary source of make-up inspiration. After the premiere of the first season, social networks were flooded with tutorials and photos of influencers creating makeup referring to those from the series. Thanks to this, Doniella Davy has become one of the most recognizable and famous makeup artists in Hollywood, whose work fans often wait more than for the next season of the series.
