I have been intending to write this article for a very long time. I was inspired not only by my own experiences, but also by observations made both among friends and people I met by chance during my travels. In a sense, this issue became an interesting sociological phenomenon for me, about which, inter alia, I will write in the article. However, my main goal will be to share with you some tips that should help you in anyway, one of the most important stages of planning a trip. So you will learn what to do to minimize the stress of packing, forget about anything, eliminate unnecessary items from our suitcase and enjoy the holidays ahead!
5 tips for packing
Packing is an age-old problem that, in my opinion, concerns mainly us women. A suitcase, a backpack, a dryer, maybe a straightener? Something to read – books, newspapers, guide, what cosmetics, medicines? And clothes – how many dresses, pairs of shoes, shorts … You do a lot of it …
- Suitcase or backpack The first and most important rule when choosing the type of luggage concerns size – the smaller the better. First of all, with limited space, we will think three times if we really need a third pair of beach shoes, and secondly, we will simply travel more comfortably. Another question – should we take a backpack or a suitcase with us? In my opinion, we should first of all consider what our vacation will look like. If we go to one hotel and plan to sunbathe there – a suitcase will be a good option, if we are going to move and not only sunbathe – a backpack. Another question that we should answer is: is the journey between hotels, islands, cities organized (suitcase), or will it involve traveling by local means of transport (backpack). My advice – do not stuff your luggage to the brim! Leave space for any souvenirs. Do not pack valuables such as a camera, tablet or reader in your main luggage.
- Cosmetics, drugs As with choosing luggage, the less the better. Consider whether we will use 250 ml of shampoo (available in most hotels) for two weeks, the same amount of conditioner, shower gel, creams, etc. Do we really need fluid, powder, blush, eyeshadow, mascara and other when going to the tropics? elements of our everyday makeup. My way of choosing and packaging cosmetics, and at the same time reducing my makeup, is to use the thumbnails of the above products, which are available in literally every drugstore. You can also buy small, plastic bottles into which we can pour our favorite shampoo or cream. The second thing is the choice of cosmetics. Going to exotic countries, such as Thailand, Indonesia, Mexico or Zanzibar, where it is really hot, and our intricately made makeup will not last long, it is worth investing in cosmetics for sunbathing and after sunbathing than in make-up cosmetics. Let’s take the absolute minimum, e.g. bronzing powder that will emphasize our tan in the evening. I also advise you to give up perfumes if you spend the day in full sun – sunburn guaranteed! He suggests taking the mist instead of them. As for the drugs, again, don’t take the entire first aid kit with you! If you are not going to a deep jungle or a place where no civilization can reach, take only what is most necessary. You can buy everything else on the spot. There are pharmacies in Bangkok too! What am I taking? Plasters, panthenol for burns, aspirin, drugs against diarrhea, possibly painkillers. I also advise you to give up perfumes if you spend the day in full sun – sunburn guaranteed! When packing, do not forget about a small bottle, e.g. vodka, which is worth drinking before a meal!
- Clothes This is probably the biggest problem for us women. Usually we take too many of them, and when packing, we are guided by the “just in case” principle. And so, “just in case” we take a few pairs of shoes, a few dresses, sweaters in different colors, long pants, T-shirts, jackets, sweatshirts, etc. And here again – the less the better! First of all, in hotels or tourist resorts there are laundries, so if we get dirty, it’s no problem, for a few dollars you can give your laundry for washing. Two – some things you won’t wear even once! So why carry something that is of no use to us? What to do to avoid taking unnecessary clothes? It’s simple, let’s think about what type of vacation we have chosen. If most of them are on the beaches of Seychelles, we will not need sneakers, fashionable espadrilles, or three pairs of jeans, etc. It is worth investing in flip-flops (I love havaianas, they are comfortable and have great patterns!), Which do not take up much space, so you can take e.g. two pairs, beach clothing, light dresses, cotton T-shirts, shorts and a hat, or other headgear. If you are in the city during your trip, or you plan to visit, e.g. Angkor temples in Cambodia, I suggest you pack comfortable sandals. We take sneakers or sneakers when we plan to trek in the jungle and, for example, to the plane. I also take with me a thin raincoat, a sweatshirt (it’s worth taking to the plane), and one pair of airy trousers. It’s a good idea to make a list when packing. I guarantee that after your first exotic trip, it will be half the size! beachwear, light dresses, cotton T-shirts, shorts and a hat or other headgear. - Hand luggage When packing, we should also carefully consider what should be in hand luggage. Situations such as a delayed plane, and thus a forced overnight stay at the airport (at best in a hotel at the airport), or basic luggage lost by airlines cause stress. In order to minimize it, it is worth considering in advance what will be most needed in such circumstances. . Think about the medications you have to take, small snacks, and cosmetics (liquids cannot be carried in bottles larger than 100 ml). Your hand luggage should contain travel documents, i.e. a passport (it is worth making a photocopy of yourself), airline tickets, photos (may be needed to obtain a visa) and other documents entitling you to enter a given country, e.g. a visa promise to Vietnam. I also pack valuable things in my travel luggage, such as a camera and a reader. My advice – passport, payment cards, money is best kept in the so-called a passport hanged around the neck, or a sachet tucked in pants. You can buy it in sports and tourist stores.
- Travel gadgets Travel gadgets that are available on our market are not only cool toys and useful accessories that facilitate travel, but above all things that will save us a lot of space in our luggage. One of my favorite gadgets is the electronic book reader. Thanks to it, we save a lot of space in a suitcase or backpack, we do not face the dilemma of which books we want to read and we do not carry bloated guides and maps! Another cool gadget is a 4 in 1 adapter, an inconspicuous device that resembles an element made of Lego blocks, it works in over 100 countries around the world! No more taking many adapters and special chargers! If you like to take a lot of photos, record videos, you want to have contact with your family, you are a workaholic and you want to have convenient access to your e-mail, you should think about a tablet. On our market, you can choose them according to the color, and you can choose the type of them according to your preferences and needs, and at the same time you will save space in your luggage! Some of us use smartphones to take photos. For those of you, I recommend two gadgets. The first is a portable charger, the so-called powerbank, an external energy source that will charge your phone when we are, for example, on a trip and do not have access to electricity. The second handy thing for selfie lovers is the boom. After folding, it takes up little space and allows us to take a photo from a distance. while traveling and we do not have access to electricity. Another way is to rip photos to virtual drives (dropbox, icloud, google).
What mistakes to avoid?
Where did the idea for the article come from? First of all, from my own experiences and travel observations at airports, hotels and stations. They show that packing, or rather what we pack when going on vacation, is really interesting. And our creativity is unlimited! I think that the biggest mystery for me are the suitcases packed for holidays in exotic countries, which weigh as much as allowed by the limits imposed by the airlines, i.e. 25-30 kg! What could be there? A straightener, a set of clothes for a month, all possible cosmetics, a few pairs of shoes? But 30 kg?
When packing, avoid taking things that will be available, for example, in hotels where we will stay overnight. Most of them are equipped with a hair dryer, iron and laundry service. This information can be easily checked on the hotel website or on such portals as booking.com. So little and it will make our luggage lighter for unnecessary things. Let’s not take too much clothes, remembering that it will be easy to wash them on the spot. Shoes will also take up a lot of space. Let’s decide on flip-flops or sandals, and leave the high heels for the banquet. Considering that most of us spend holidays in warm countries, let’s think about our complexion, let it rest, do not tire it with additional layers of makeup, which will flow down in a moment. Packing is an individual matter and there is no one proven method of packing. What we must remember, however, is
Remember: as in all life, in packaging – it’s not the quantity that counts, but the quality!
Bon Voyage!
