How do I delete an Instagram account?
Remember that only you can delete your account. Instagram cannot delete your account on your behalf. In other words – if you want to submit an account deletion request, you must be logged in. Alternatively, have access to the e-mail with which the account has been registered.
To submit a request for permanent account deletion, you must:
- Go to the website: https://www.instagram.com/accounts/remove/request/permanent/ – you can do it on mobile or computer. If you are not logged in, log in. Remember! You cannot delete the account from the application on the phone.
- Select an option from the drop-down menu next to “Why do you want to delete your account?” And then re-enter your password. The option to permanently delete the account will only be displayed if you select the reason from the menu.
- Click “Permanently delete my account”.
If you want to delete an account other than the one on which you are logged in:
- Click (or tap on the username) in the upper-right corner of the Delete Account page.
- Click next to Edit Profile and select Sign Out.
- Log in to the account you want to delete again and follow the instructions earlier.
How do I temporarily disable my Instagram account?
If you are not ready to permanently delete your account, you can use the option to temporarily deactivate your account.
To temporarily disable your account:
- Go to instagram.com from your computer or using your smartphone browser.
- Log in to the profile in the browser. The account cannot be deleted from the Instagram application.
- Click your profile picture in the upper right corner, then select Profile> Edit Profile .
- Select “Temporary Disabling of Account”.
- Answer the question “Why are you deactivating your account?” And then enter your password. You will be able to disable the account only after you select the reason and enter the password. Before shutting down you will be asked to confirm the action, click “yes.
Is a temporarily disabled account visible to other people?
Temporarily disabling your account will keep your photos, comments and likes hidden until you reactivate your account by logging in to it. When you log back in, everything will go back to the way it was before you turned off.
How long does it take to delete an account?
After 30 days from submitting the request to delete the account, all information on it will be permanently deleted, without the possibility of recovering it .
In fact, it can take up to 90 days to delete all published content from the moment you start the process. However, the deleted information is not available to other people.
Account delete and complete data erasure
Deleting an account does not guarantee that your activity history will be completely erased.
