Paris – the romantic capital of the world (at least according to the French)

Paris, one of the most visited and recommended cities to visit around the globe. For many of us, at the mere sound of this name, our hearts will beat faster, and the memories from years ago will come back. Paris is not only a truistic “city of love and lovers”, it is above all phenomenal and monumental architecture, unique works of art in the world, and this area also includes the culinary sphere offered by the capital of France. There are also countless small streets and corners for the body and soul, parks full of green and bustling life, and recreational areas filled with afternoons and sunny weekends. An urban fabric, subject to constant changes, under which still hides “good old Paris”, a place worth coming back to from time to time.

Notre Dame

Notre Dame

The greater Paris area is served by three airports, the choice of low-cost airlines and regular carriers is very large, so you will find a comfortable flight without any problems. The journey itself will take around two and a half hours. Orly and De Gaulle airports are within the city and the center can be reached by train and metro, while Beauvais airport is more than 75 km from the city center and can be reached by a special shuttle bus from the center of Paris in approx. 1 hour. 15 min.

Of course, a luxury trip to Paris requires the right accommodation. Brighton Hotel, located in the 1st District, dating back to the 19th century, will meet even the highest expectations. The classic and elegant shape has retained its original character, and the interiors are filled with works of art properly integrated with modern amenities for guests. Its greatest advantage is its location in the heart of the city – you will not waste any time on long and tedious journeys to the most important attractions.

After arriving and checking into your room, it’s time to stretch your legs. Opposite the hotel is the city’s most famous garden, stretching between the Louvre and Place de la Concorde – Tuileries, delighting locals and visitors since the mid-16th century. Be sure to take a walk along the Seine and the numerous bridges that connect the two shores of the city. Heading west, you will reach the characteristic monument on Place de la Concorde – it was here that during the French Revolution spectacular beheadings were made. This is where the famous Avenue des Champs Elysees begins, a representative avenue full of greenery and magnificent architecture. On the way, stop by for lunch at Le Laurent, or make a note of this address for later – it’s an exceptionally luxurious restaurant; and if you have enough time and energy, it is worth reaching all the way to the Arc de Triomphe. Following the scenic route along the Seine, you will finally come to Trocadero Square and the Champs de Mars. The most recognizable point of the city awaits you here – over 300 meters high “iron lady of Paris”, the famous Eiffel Tower. You will surely remember the view from the top for a long time.

Effla Tower

Effla Tower

The next day, go in the opposite direction from the hotel. After a few minutes you will see the characteristic glass pyramid – congratulations, you have just arrived at the Louvre, greet Mona Lisa and Venus de Milo from us. The most beautiful bridges, Pont des Arts or Pont Neuf, will take you to the other side of the Latin Quarter and the buildings of the Sorbonne University, as well as the Sainte-Chapelle chapel and the Notre-Dame Cathedral.

Do you have more than two days? Do not forget about the Paris catacombs, the Garnier opera house or the “most Parisian” district, Montmartre – it is here that the city’s greatest artists created, and the cobbled streets delight with an intimate atmosphere and numerous pubs. The Sacre Coeur basilica and its characteristic white domes dominate the limestone hill.

France - Paris, Eiffel Tower

ROMANTIC PARIS AND ELITE SAINT TROPEZ

FRANCE – Paris, Saint Tropez

Paris is a city of romantics and artists. It may be a strong contrast to the exclusive Saint Tropez, but it is this composition that is the recipe for a perfect holiday in France, during which you will fully experience the atmosphere of this one-of-a-kind country! You will start your day with a typical French breakfast, i.e. a butter croissant and black coffee, during the day you will look for the Mona Lisa and Venus de Milo in the Louvre in Paris, walk along the Seine and the streets of Montmartre. You will gain strength by eating in excellent French restaurants and finishing the day with a glass of champagne on the top floor of the Eiffel Tower. Saint Tropez will be the icing on the cake of this French feast. What better place to relax than where the sun shines more than 300 days a year?

An equally important attraction is the world-famous French cuisine – not only clams, frogs’ legs, snails or foise gras. First a board of cheeses, fresh bread and light snacks, then you must try onion soup, ratatouille or salty tart quiche lorraine, drink wine from one of the famous appellations (wine region), and order a creme brulee or a sweet souffle for dessert. For this aromatic coffee and you can find the culinary experience fulfilled!

Paris is not the cheapest city, but it does not differ much from popular places in Western Europe. The entrance to the Eiffel Tower is just over 20 EUR, the ticket to the Louvre is 15-20 EUR. You can get to every corner of the city by metro, and for tourists there are several days’ tickets for public transport, starting from EUR 12, and this is also what you should assume for a short taxi journey, which can be found at every turn.

Athens – an antique postcard

It will not be an exaggeration to call Athens the cradle of European civilization – it is hard to guess what modern Europe would look like if not for the Greek and Athenian influences that have shaped our continent for over 2,000 years. Local art, science, philosophy and politics have left a clear mark on every part of our everyday life, even if we do not notice it at first. The accessibility of the city, the size of the present metropolis, its colorful character and diversity make it a perfect destination for a short and luxurious journey, which will be filled with the atmosphere of bygone times, long walks around the Place or the bustle of intimate pubs and the taste of Greek cuisine. And although you will not see Athens as Socrates, Plato or Aristotle saw it, the weekend spent there will be a feast for our eyes, spirit and palate.

Acropolis

Acropolis

You will fly to the Greek capital from several ports in Poland, both with low-cost airlines and regular LOT or Aegan connections. The flight is approximately two and a half hours, the airport is 30 km from the city center, and the journey by car or metro takes approximately 40 minutes.

For a classic city break in a luxurious edition, we recommend The Zillers Boutique hotel. It is a small gem offering just 10 rooms, some of which have a captivating view of the Acropolis hill, especially impressive in the evening. The magically illuminated peak can be admired from the hotel’s restaurant located on the roof of the building. The historic tenement house in which The Zillers is located adjoins a small square and is a great starting point for the next few days.

Lisbon – in fado rhythms

Situated on picturesque hills, at the junction of the Atlantic Ocean and continental Europe, the capital of Portugal is a lavish, rich and colorful metropolis that, from the 15th century and the era of the Great Discoveries, was both the beginning and the end of the world we know. The port in the Belem district, from which the trips began, attracted travelers, merchants, poets and artists who together created the character of old and present Lisbon. All the knowledge of the globe at that time was contained in cobbled streets, pastel facades of tenement houses and palaces richly decorated with azulejos tiles. Lisbon is inextricably associated with the gentle and nostalgic sounds of fado, countless stairs leading up and down, views of the Tagus River estuary to the ocean or the nearby architectural wonders of Sintra.

The most important of them are the characteristic Monument to the Discoverers and the Wind Rose, the medieval defensive tower, as well as the monumental Hieronymites Monastery, entered on the UNESCO list, and the adjacent Maritime Museum. Belem is also famous for its excellent restaurants serving the best seafood – we recommend a visit to Nunes Real Marisqueira. Travel to the eastern part of the city is worth taking by tram: part of the route can be traveled on the historic line 18, which has been running for over 100 years; its wagons are also antique, but a bit younger. It is here that the city rises higher and higher on numerous hills, the labyrinth of historic streets full of charming houses and corners is getting denser, and tired legs may want to take advantage of the numerous lifts that save a lot of time and energy. Most of the time, you will be able to hear the gentle sounds of guitars (this is fado – look for an atmospheric pub to listen to these rhythms better) and watch elaborately decorated ceramic tiles (these are azulejos – in the center there is even a museum dedicated to them). ROMAN HOLIDAYS – ETERNAL CITY AND SICILY

ITALY – Rome, Sicily

Rome and Sicily – these two places are the key to the history of Europe, the best Mediterranean cuisine, wine, coffee, pizza and pasta, to the real la dolce vita, which manifests itself here in the ability to enjoy every moment, especially the one spent with your loved ones in abundance set table. During a trip to Italy, you will learn the essence of Italy: we will take you to the Eternal City, where you will visit the most important European architectural monuments and surrender to the undeniable charm of this city, and Sicily will charm you with its nature, landscapes, olive groves, atmospheric towns and a wonderful coast.

One of the most popular places on the tourist map of Rome you will find literally right at your doorstep. Piazza Navona is a historic square with a fountain of Neptune, surrounded by rich palaces, churches and a labyrinth of narrow streets with a former atmosphere. From here you can start further sightseeing, and even if you are in Rome for the first time, you will surely associate the attractions in the area. The first point is the Pantheon – a round temple in honor of the Roman gods; then the monumental Venetian Square and its monuments and the neighboring Capitol, designed by Michelangelo; then the ancient Roman Forum with all the monuments of the ancient world, from where it is just a few steps to the Colosseum, a huge amphitheater that has so far impressed with its architecture. It is a real showcase of the city. When in the area, take a look at the Aroma restaurant – Italian cuisine at its best with a view right on the Colosseum. And this is just the beginning of the tour! Another very important place is the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore with its stunning mosaics and gilded ceiling; the last places of the day will be the Trevi Fountain with impressive sculptures and the no less famous Spanish Steps.

The next day, it is worth going to the other side of the Tiber, gently winding through the center of Rome. Just crossing one of the historic bridges is something attractive, not to mention what awaits you next. A characteristic landmark is the round castle of St. Angelo, here begins perhaps the most representative avenue of the city – Via della Conciliazione, leading to the smallest country in the world, the Vatican. St. Peter will delight even non-religious people: it is a real work of art, which, with its magnificence, is probably second only to another of the Vatican attractions – the Sistine Chapel and its famous frescoes are probably the most beautiful work that has ever been made by a human being.

According to many voices, the cuisine of the Apennine Peninsula is unmatched anywhere in the world – it is more than just a simple consumption, here every meal becomes a social and cultural event. Various pastas served with even more diverse sauces, pizza and Parma ham or Parmesan cheese, for dessert strong and delicious coffee as an addition to ice cream, tiramisu or panna cotta, in the evening a glass of chianti or amarone is a must – and your day in Italy will be complete.

Single admission tickets cost between 5 and 10 EUR, a lot of churches can be entered for free, and how much money you throw into the Di Trevi Fountain is up to your discretion.

Europe and its cities are often underestimated, yet they hide many treasures, both for those who like active sightseeing and relaxing doing nothing. They can be fantastic solutions for a shorter trip or a weekend city break.
