With watches, as with shoes. Often when falling into a shopping frenzy, we forget that we already have 10 pairs of shoes, 15 shirts and 20 watches. And we don’t really need more.
According to the principle – the less the better – we should choose items that are as universal, of good quality and timeless as possible.
By succumbing to fashion trends, we fall into a trap. Often a given item is fashionable for a season or two. Later, it goes away, and often, as in the case of watches, it costs several hundred or even several thousand zlotys. After years, it loses its value, and we fall into another shopping frenzy to keep up with new trends. Over and over again.
A watch for life?
There are several types of shoes, shirts and suits that – if we take care of them properly – will last for a lifetime. When buying the first suit, we should choose navy blue, the second should be gray, the third black, and only with the next ones we can go crazy.
The same is with shoes. Oxford, Derby, Viennese, Monk. Only later do we try to look for alternatives. It is no different with watches. Of course, no one can buy us 100 watches, but what is the chance that we will wear all of them fairly evenly? What is the chance that after a year we will not get bored of half of them? And finally – do we just need this?
Of course – no. Taking into account all possible circumstances, we have prepared a list of 5 watches that will make you have a watch for literally every occasion. If, in your opinion, we have omitted any special sphere of life, and thus a specific type of watches – be sure to let us know in the comments.
Universal watch
Each of us leads a different lifestyle. Some work physically, others work in office. Still others don’t have to work at all (lucky guys!). Regardless of this, each of us should have one watch that will look very good for virtually any styling.
The watch should first of all be equipped with a leather strap, have a universal, white dial, a silver case and a date stamp. It doesn’t really matter if it will be a quartz or a mechanical watch.
So that people wouldn’t look at us strangely when we go out into the city in them. If we want to be 100% sure that this watch will look consistently good in everyday situations, we should avoid:
- watches with Roman indexes
- watches on a silicone strap
- watches with a gold or gilded case
- watches with very richly decorated dials
Before you, a few suggestions, from which you should easily choose the one, the most universal watch. One that will appear on your wrist practically every day!

The Zeppelin LZ129 watch in the machine is one of our proposals for a universal watch. However, the Zeppelin brand offers so many interesting models that we prefer to refer you to the entire offer of this German brand
A watch for special occasions
Wedding, family celebration, anniversary, company jubilee, charity ball, child’s communion. Regardless of who you are, you will certainly have to prepare for one of these occasions.
Therefore, it would be good if you had this one watch that you will be wearing “on holiday”. It is not appropriate for you to go to the wedding in the same shoes and shirt in which you go to work or for a beer. It is no different with the watch. What defines a watch as perfect for special occasions?
- small size of the case – depending on your wrist, of course. If the circumference is 18-19 cm, do not choose a watch with a case width of 44 mm, but the smaller ones. E.g. 38-40mm.
- minimalism – an elegant watch cannot have a million functions, e.g. stopwatch, alarm. Choose a watch that has a very legible dial
- indexes – unlike all other types of watches, this one can have Roman indexes, because they determine the degree of formality of the watch. This is not a requirement, but if you want different watches in your collection, you can look for a timepiece with just these indexes here
- belt – leather only. Preferably black, dark brown or navy blue. Each of them will be perfect for a dark suit.
- belt clasp – classic or so-called butterfly.
- date stamp – does not have to be present.
Interestingly, elegant watches do not have to be expensive. Here is the proof:

A classic of the genre. Automatic watch up to PLN 1000 made with great attention to detail. Small in size, available in many color versions: Orient Bambino
Survival watch
Each of us has to take a break from everyday problems. Some people ride bicycles. Others walk for hours in the mountains, forests and fields. Still others jump on the yacht or go for a swim.
Regardless of this, we should – as watch enthusiasts – have a timepiece that will not be affected by anything in contact with nature. What defines a watch as ideal for hiking, climbing or rafting?
- high class of water resistance – the more, the better, but let’s assume that such a minimum is 10ATM – 100m. This does not mean that we can immerse the watch to 100 meters, and to 50. The given values refer to laboratory conditions, so we have to divide them by 2. A watch with a high class of water resistance means that we will not have to worry about something it will happen when we decide to bathe in a lake or when we are hit by a heavy downpour.
- nato strap or silicone strap – only these two types of straps will make you not worry about damaging them. The leather belt will most likely become moldy after a rain shower or a bath. The metal bracelet will certainly get scratched during a forest trek.
- additional functions – it is known that during a trip, we may need, for example, to highlight the dial to see the time. So it will be useful so-called “Luma” or luminescent paint applied to the hands and indexes. Thanks to this backlight, regardless of the season or time, we can easily read the time, but also check, for example, our location (compass). Survival watches – as they are also called, can also be in analog form. After all, while hiking, we do not want to waste time reading what the shield indicates, and admire the surrounding natural wonders.
Here are some cool suggestions for survival watches. Who knows. Maybe one of them will save your life one day

The absolute and undisputed champion when it comes to survival watches – Casio G-Shock. Our proposition is the G-Shock Rangeman, which has so many interesting features that you will probably never use half of them. No wonder it is in the service of the Polish Army.

Pro Trek watches are an interesting alternative to the popular G-Shock. Quartz, equally indestructible watches are often equipped with a titanium bracelet and a compass, altimeter, barometer, thermometer, and a mechanism powered by solar energy.
Passionate watch
Burn devilishly practicality. After all, a watch is often the only jewelry that men wear.
It is important that it emphasizes our character and refers to life passions. Currently, the watch offer of many brands includes watches dedicated to or inspired by aviation, automotive classics, sports icons or historical figures.
Why is this type of watch included in the list? On a daily basis, we usually have to adjust our clothes to the dresscode prevailing at work. However, there are situations in which we can abandon almost all the rules and concentrate on ourselves. You can put on a watch that you will take care of in a special way. It can also be a timer that you have seen e.g. in a movie with your favorite actor.

A Laco watch from the Genf series, stylized as a pilot’s watch. The perfect gift for aviation fans and history lovers. More about the brand itself: Laco
A watch like no other
All right. So we already have an everyday, elegant, survival watch and one that is important only for a reason we know. What should be the fifth watch to complete the collection and make it complete?
Different than all. Choose the watch you like and which will be different than the others. The world of watchmaking offers so much that there is something for everyone. And we have already imposed 4 out of 5 watches!
Let this one be totally yours. For some, a very rare and good movement will be important, for others, uniqueness (e.g. a limited edition of a timepiece), and for others, the age of the watch (vintage watch) or the desire to shine in front of friends (e.g. a watch with an “open heart”) may be important .

Orient Esteem, a semi-skeleton watch. The so-called open-heart. An interesting proposition, e.g. as a second, more daring elegant watch
Regardless of which watch you choose, remember one thing.
It is no crime to own one watch or the entire collection. Either way, it’s good to have a wardrobe prepared for any occasion. Also for watches.
